Auto update

9:26PM

65 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Kovacic on for Jorginho.

Fornals is off, Benrahma on.

9:25PM

63 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Fornals hits a crisp low shot that is blocked before it requires the attention of Mendy, which is probably for the best.

9:23PM

62 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Silva gets in front of the man at the front post at a corner. Jeez, guys: he only scored the first goal from the exact same position, no need to mark up tightly.

9:20PM

60 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Lampard needs to make a change. Chelsea are going to throw this away if they are not careful.

Neither team’s performance is much to write home about. Dubious quality, dubious entertainment levels so far.

9:19PM

57 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Goal kick. West Ham thought that Thiago had got the last touch. Ref says otherwise.

9:19PM

56 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Another sloppy spell from Chelsea. Werner tries to do too much from defence and loses it, dangerously. Now Kante gives it away. Now Mount drags down Bowen. West Ham sling the ball in.

9:11PM

50 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Worries for West Ham fans, as their rock=solid goalie Fabianksi is limping. He seems to be okay to carry on. Werner had banged into him in pursuit of a ball from Abraham.

9:09PM

48 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Good chance for Haller. He wheels into position in the centre and gets on the end of the Creswell cross. Plants the header wide.

9:07PM

46 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Chelsea allowed to play it around at the back. They settle quickly.

9:05PM

Players are back out

No further changes.

8:59PM

A good analysis

on Sky Sports from Jamie Carragher explaining the mixed man + zonal marking employed by West Ham at the corner. Four big guys stay back marking zonal , and then you have four others a bit further forward who are meant to be man marking the Chelsea runners. Creswell, though, was drawn towards the ball at the front post, panicked, tried to head it but missed. Thiago did the rest.

8:49PM

Half time: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Chelsea started quite dominantly and then let the visitors back into it. Neither side able to look convincing for more than a few minutes at a time. West Ham gifted Chelsea a goal from a corner.

8:47PM

45+ mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Three minutes are added. Chelsea nearly smuggle the ball through. Ogbonna hoofs clear.

8:45PM

45 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Haller and Jorginho go up for it and the latter lands heavily. Makes a song and dance of it.

8:44PM

43 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

It should have been 2-0. Pulisic with a powerful, dominating run. He’s got Abraham to his right, and Werner to his left. Sadly, he chooses left. Werner, who looks low on confidence, turns an opportunity into a problem, getting the ball stuck clumsily under his trotters and eventually settling on an apologetic stab at goal.

Chelsea get a corner nevertheless. Mount tries an effort from the edge of the area. Dribbles through to Fab.

8:42PM

41 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Rice is some player, and some athlete as well. He’s given Azpili a big head start here and won, and he crosses hard and low. Chelsea hack it away. Anywhere.

8:38PM

36 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

The ball launched deep into the Chelsea box, but over hit.

8:37PM

33 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Chelsea need to get their act together. And nearly do when Kante feeds Pulisic, who sets off on a run.. into the West Ham box.. but a heavy touch.

8:30PM

29 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Chelsea, having been in total command, are letting Chelsea back into this.

They are first to not one but two headers, Bowen bundles through and bundles the ball into the net. He’s adjudged to have fouled Thiago in doing so. I am not so sure. Anyway. Ref is.

8:28PM

27 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Chelsea marking suspect as Nobile chips the ball in. Headed back across and Haller tries an overhead effort. Wins a corner. Soucek putting it about in the area.

8:26PM

25 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Creswell, a bright and busy chap gets a moment down the left when Azpilicueta blunders under seemingly little pressure. He crosses/shoots wide.

8:24PM

23 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

84 per cent of the ball for Chelsea. I think WHU might be in for a doing here.

8:22PM

20 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Kante slips over, allowing Haller to nip in, but Haller has got no nip. Azpilicueta hares back and cleans up.

8:21PM

18 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Mark Noble is chasing the game, about 1/4 of a second after he arrives, the ball was there.  He’s playing at the forward point of a midfield three and is having a frustrating time.

8:18PM

16 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Chelsea have it in the net, via Abraham. But the ball had just gone out of play at the byline before Azpilicueta crossed it.

8:16PM

14 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

West Ham sloppy. Giving it away 30 yards from goal. Pulisic is within an inch of being clean through.

8:13PM

12 mins: Chelsea 1 West Ham 0

Chelsea have another corner, Soucek heads that one away. But it’s soon back in the West Ham box. Chelsea are piling it on. Jorginho with a nice ball out to Mount, who flashes the ball across goal. Just needed a touch! Abraham and Werner were on the premises but not quite close enough.

8:11PM

GOAL! Chelsea 1 West Ham 0 (Thiago Silva 10)

He is not needed! Nor is anyone else. Thiago gets the run on Bowen, West Ham are marking zonally – or, rather, they think they are. Thiago arrives late, mighty (albeit free) header and no chance for Fabianksi.

8:08PM

8 mins: Chelsea 0 West Ham 0

Chilwell is going to have to come off. Emerson comes on. His first task will be to help Chelsea attack a corner.

8:07PM

6 mins: Chelsea 0 West Ham 0

A stop-start game. Haller caught offside. And now he is fouled. From it, West Ham take a quick freekick….

… Rice makes a cute run across the back of the Chelsea defensive line, receives the ball in the inside right channel, and finishes superbly from a very tight angle. Is it offside? It is. Shame. It was a lovely, clever bit of play from the Basmati Busquets.

8:04PM

3 mins: Chelsea 0 West Ham 0

A busy start from both sides in this empty stadium. Neither team showing yet. I am not counting Jorginho shooting the ball into the Thames with a hopeless long-ranger

Chilwell clips Bowen from behind and has hurt himself in the process of fouling him.

8:00PM

1 mins: Chelsea 0 West Ham 0

Hammers punt it long. Moyes has never won at The Bridge in the League, I believe.

8:00PM

The players take

a knee. West Ham to play with a back four? They kick off.

Chelsea: Mendy, Azpilicueta, Zouma, Thiago Silva, Chilwell, Jorginho, Kante, Mount, Werner, Abraham, Pulisic. Subs: Arrizabalaga, Rudiger, Christensen, Kovacic, Giroud, Hudson-Odoi, Gilmour, Havertz, Emerson Palmieri.

West Ham: Fabianski, Coufal, Balbuena, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Rice, Soucek, Bowen, Noble, Fornals, Haller. Subs: Yarmolenko, Benrahma, Snodgrass, Dawson, Diop, Fredericks, Martin, Johnson, Randolph.

Referee: Chris Kavanagh (Lancashire)

7:59PM

Three changes for Chelsea

Azpilicueta, Abraham and the aforementioned Jorginhoin for James, Havertz, and Giroud.

For the visitors. Balbuena and Noble take the places of Diop and Benrahma.

7:58PM

The players are back out

on the pitch. Good old Mark Noble leads the Hammers out. Gary Neville reckons that Jorginho, who is 29 tonight, is an ideal opponent for him and fancies Mark to have a good game.

7:46PM

David Moyes

“Mark Noble has been a bit unlucky not to start before. Antonio is not ready for the game, big miss undoubtably. Chelsea have kept the ball very well. We need to do well without the ball. We are better team this year. We are playing against a team who are hurting a bit so we are going to get a tough game.”

7:45PM

Frank Lampard

says his team have “dropped their intensity” of late, ie in losing the last two. And that they need to play with that pace and intensity.

7:39PM

Timo Werner

with some interesting quotes: “I started well but I am finding it difficult in the Premier League, there is a lot of contact, more than I was expecting. More than in Germany.”

7:38PM

Jamie Carragher

“He came in and made a difference, but then after Kepa…”

7:37PM

Gary Neville

“The Chelsea keeper needs a mistake-free evening. Rash, lacks composure, mistakes are creeping in.”

6:58PM

Good evening

Welcome to the hell, or our nation’s great capital as it was once known, as Chelsea and West Ham prepare to contest a fixture in the Premier League behind, once again, closed doors. We will have the team news any minute now.

West Ham are just a point behind Chelsea. Is this the season that they finally moved away from the relegation scuffles and the behind-the-scenes drama of previous recent campaigns? Time will tell but they are going nicely and the rep of Moyes is certainly on the up again after a few so-so years.

Talking of managerial rep, everyone of course fell over themselves to praise Frank Lampard, but clearly there is still a way to go yet. His exciting but brittle outfit have lost their last two and cannot lose many more this season if they are to get into the cHamPionS LeaGE which is of course the real quiz.

Here is the team he has named tonight.

Chelsea: Mendy, Azpilicueta, Zouma, Thiago Silva, Chilwell, Jorginho, Kante, Mount, Werner, Abraham, Pulisic. Subs: Arrizabalaga, Rudiger, Christensen, Kovacic, Giroud, Hudson-Odoi, Gilmour, Havertz, Emerson Palmieri.

West Ham: Fabianski, Coufal, Balbuena, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Rice, Soucek, Bowen, Noble, Fornals, Haller. Subs: Yarmolenko, Benrahma, Snodgrass, Dawson, Diop, Fredericks, Martin, Johnson, Randolph.

Referee: Chris Kavanagh (Lancashire)

Could be a good one, this. West Ham have nothing to fear. Chelsea have an exciting attacking line up of young talents in Mount, Werner and Abraham. Clearly you’d rather have Frank’s bench that David’s.
